Ruta Bartkeviciute
Bell (RUB45)
Ceramics
Graduating in 2013, Ruta Bartkeviciute works from her studio in Letchworth, Hertfordshire.
Whilst studying she developed an interest in functional tableware, producing designs in clear colours and simple, useable forms whilst also incorporating distinctive symbols, including those of the Tree of Life and of Balitc figures from her Lithuanian childhood as well as forms from the natural world.
Ruta produces her pieces from red clay using simple clean lines and hand painting each piece herself and using a low temperature firing technique in order to produce her signature bright colour glazes. Their simplicity is deceptive. Finished pieces are beautifully modern, intensely colourful yet wonderfully functional ceramics.
In 2018 Ruta was a winner of Liberty of London's Liberty Open Call design competition.
