Charles MacQueen RSW RGI

Charles MacQueen RSW RGI (b. 1940, Glasgow) is a Scottish artist based in Fife, Scotland. He was educated at St Aloysius College and then studied at Glasgow School of Art from 1958 to 1962. After graduation, MacQueen pursued a successful career as an art teacher. Throughout his teaching years, MacQueen continued to paint and exhibit his work. In 1990, MacQueen eventually retired and became a professional artist full time.

MacQueen uses textured levels of paint and gesso to create the feeling, sensation or experience of specific places. His abstract compositions incorporate memories and forms observed from his travels to Morocco, Italy, the Greek Islands, and France. The influence of colour and light experienced in these places are visible in his highly textured and atmospheric works:
