Pete Fricker

Pete is a contemporary glass artist based in Shrewsbury. He studied at the International Glass Centre in Brierley Hill from 2007 to 2009 and enjoys the challenge and immediacy of hot glass.

Pete is a founding member of Stourbridge Glassblowing Studio with fellow glass artists Ian Bamforth, Vic Bamforth, and Stephen Foster. Their co-operative was established in late 2010, with their studio based in the refurbished Ruskin Glass Centre in Amblecote, Stourbridge. Located at this historic site, with a rich heritage of glass-making, the artists use the studios bespoke equipment to realise their ideas and develop pieces that reflect their own individual styles.

Pete's current work comprises blown glass that is characterised by the use of rich base colours such as dark bronze, ochre, and greens/blues. He applies trails, often in combination with grains, shards, and kin-formed pick-ups to create unique, layered designs.

Pete uses photographs and sketch books for reference in making his pieces. These references help to develop his abstract designs from sources ranging from biology, natural history and landscape to scrap yards and dilapidated buildings.
