Kath Cooper

Kath Cooper is a ceramic artist based at her home studio in Cheltenham.

She studied at Cardiff Art College, where she obtained a BA (Hons.) degree in Three-Dimensional Design-Ceramics in 1990. After graduating, Kath worked for five years at Prinknash Pottery, where she gained experience in production techniques. She went on to teach adult pottery classes and has worked as a pottery and art technician in colleges and schools. Since 2008, she has been making her work full-time, and is still involved in teaching pottery to brain injury survivors at Headway in Gloucestershire.

Kath has explored many techniques over the years, including burnishing and smoke firing, raku glaze resist, throwing, and traditional slip-trailing.

She currently works in white earthenware clay and coloured slips. She hand-draws her designs using the scraffito technique with a fine needle.
She also uses her own handmade ceramic stamps to make impressed designs into the soft clay.

'I am influenced by the naïve quality of Folk and Scandinavia Art, embroidery and pattern, to create an illustrative style inspired by nature.'
