Bob Crooks

One of Britain's most highly recognised leading glassmakers, Bob Crooks was born in 1965 in London. He studied at the Humberside College of HE and the West Surrey College of Art and Design, graduating in 1989 with a BA (Hons). After graduating he worked at the celebrated First Glass in London before setting up his own company in 1990. He relocated down to Devon in 2003 where he now lives and works.

Renowned for high quality, skilfully executed dynamic forms and surfaces, Bob is continuously thinking of original and challenging ideas. Each piece is designed, handmade and finished by Bob himself, with no moulds being used to create the forms or surfaces he produces. His work is inspired by geometry, architecture, the natural and man-made worlds we live in as well as the qualities and capabilities of the glass itself. Bob exploits the many properties of the material through refraction or reflection; sharpness or softness, transparency or opacity. He loves working with its fluidity and 'freezing' it as the desired form is realised.

Every piece Bob makes is a one-off, be it one his production pieces or one of his intricately designed statement pieces. It is not possible to make 2 pieces identical due to the process and different applications he uses.
