Glass
Originally trained as a primary school teacher, a move to Oxford 14 years ago gave me the opportunity to return to college on a Foundation in Art and Design course where I first encountered kiln formed glass. I was immediately captivated by the process and subsequently spent three years studying 3D glass in London before setting up my own purpose built studio at home.
Using sheets of float glass I make expressive glass pieces that have a painterly quality to them. Inclusions of metal leaf and wire enable me to 'draw' within the glass and create a palette of subtle colours when the glass is fired. There is a magical alchemy to this process which can be unpredictable but which gives each piece its absolutely individual character.
My subject matter comes from observation of the world around me and has always been informed by the drawing skills that were a strong element of my art training.
