Marion Drummond PAI

Born in Glasgow in 1958, Marion has had a passion for wildlife and the natural world since childhood. Largely self-taught, Marion has built a remarkable reputation as a professional painter over the last 30 years for her instantly recognisable work and she was awarded PAI (Paisley Art Institute) recognition in 2018. She currently lives and works from her home in Stirlingshire.

Whilst best known for her incredible floral paintings, Marion is also a recognised landscapes and figurative artist. Her subject matter is always real and studied, whether it be the soft petals of a flower, or the atmosphere and presence of a sitter and she often paints en plein air. She completely absorbs herself in the painting process, working with energy and passion as she strives to capture the light, mood and movement of a moment.

Marion works predominantly in oils, preferring to use her fingers and rags to produce her pieces, rather than traditional brushes and palette knives. She loves the feel of the paint between her fingers and the ability to sculpt it, working impulsively and with freedom. This style of painting allows her to develop a softness and intimacy in her pieces through capturing the fleeting light and curved lines of nature.
