Ronnie Ford

Ronnie studied at the Glasgow School of Art from 1970-1974, graduating with a BA (Hons). In 1975 he achieved a Teaching certificate from Jordanhill College of Education. For the next 28 years he taught art, 11 of these at Sha Tin College in Hong Kong. His style of sculptural painting is inspired by the countryside around his second home in France and is also influenced by his studies of eastern and western Art. He has had several sell-out exhibitions and has sold his work to clients (public, private and corporate) world wide. His work features a highly textured surface and use of contrasting colours, capturing the French and Scottish landscape in a personal and evocative way. He focuses on entrapping the spirit of these landscapes which was the goal of the Chinese masters who believed that "anyone can copy a person or a landscape but only true masters catch its spirit!". In 2003 Ronnie's Hong Kong exhibition was the central feature of the top Canto Pop star Sammie Cheng's MTV video. In a Power Charity Auction his work sold for five times the asking price and was the third most expensive work sold.

"I study the landscape, then distance myself from it physically and with time, in order to filter out unnecessary detail and capture the spirit of what I have seen on my canvases. As a result my paintings are often not representations of any particular place, but more of theimpression that place has left upon me."
