Bobbie Coleman

Bobbie was born in Dartford in 1964 and, at the age of eleven, moved to Cornwall with her parents and proceeded to fall in love with the endless cliffs and beaches which made up the coastline she lived by. After school she studied graphic design firstly at Cornwall College and then at Bournemouth College of Art & Design between 1983 - 1987, after which she began work as a designer for various large design companies in London.

Feeling a need to develop her creativity beyond the commercial world she moved to Scotland in 1990, firstly to Edinburgh where she took up the post of lecturer at Edinburgh College of Art before then becoming the Head of Department for Visual Communication. Whilst living and working in the city, she was struck by the different styles of ornate stained glass that were found in the city's architecture, which led her to study the medium of glass further. Bobbie now lives and works from her studio in Fife to concentrate on her love of glass full-time.

Bobbie produces contemporary glass sculptural works with nature being her main inspiration. Having lived by the sea for a lot of her life, she is drawn to its beauty and power which is reflected in many of her pieces. She uses a variety of different techniques, incorporating paints, reflective surfaces and hints of gold and silver, which allow her works to shimmer and sparkle as light bounces off them.
