Ian & Maggie Kinnear

Ian studied Drawing and Painting at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art, Dundee from 1961-65 graduating with a Diploma in Art. In 1965 he was awarded the David Murray Scholarship for Landscape Painting from the Royal Academy Schools, London.
 In 1966 he started a teaching career in Glasgow and from then until 1979 he taught art at schools in Stirling and Kingussie High School.

Maggie studied at Glasgow University and graduated as a M.A. in 1965. She taught English in Glasgow before starting a family.

Both Ian and Maggie set up the Insh Pottery in Inverness-shire in 1979 and for the next nine years ran a successful pottery business. They also managed to show their ceramics in selected exhibitions in Scotland. During this period, Ian continued to paint and exhibit his work. The Kinnear's were also commissioned by the Tay Yacht Club to produce commemorative ceramics for their Centenary.
 
Ian and Maggie moved to Tayside in 1988 and established the Oathlaw Pottery Studio on a full-time basis. Since then they have continued to exhibit their work throughout Scotland. They are regular exhibitors at The Strathearn Gallery.
