Lesley D. McKenzie
Baby Hare
Raku
Born in Aberdeen in 1967, Lesley has lived and worked there ever since. She was initially trained as a graphic artist but it wasn't until 1996 that she decided to start her own business, fusing her love of animals with her unique artistic talents. Lesley's extensive understanding of anatomy, and her ability to convey the character of her chosen subject, results in a truly unique and captivating sculpture and paintings.
Lesley's raku fired ceramic animal sculptures are all one off, hand built originals and are made using earthenware clay. All the sculptures must be hollow and are formed by wrapping clay around a paper stuffing to create the basic body shape, before adding on the rest of the form. The dried sculpture is then raku fired resulting in a lifelike finish and a crackle glaze.
