Gordon Wilson

Gordon Wilson is one of Scotland's most exciting contemporary artists. He was born in 1968 and grew up in Glasgow where he is now based. He studied at The Glasgow School of Art and has worked in the art industry for many years as a designer, picture framer and artist.

Gordon's subject matter ranges from quirky portraiture to emotive land and seascapes, with his deep love of the West Coast of Scotland shining through his evocative work.

Gordon paints from the heart, his expressive oil paintings reflect the ever changing moods of both the countryside and the artist himself.

Demand for Gordon Wilson artwork continues to grow with his colourful work found in private and corporate art collections around the world. He exhibits n leading art galleries throughout the UK and has participated in several solo exhibitions and numerous group exhibitions including The Royal Glasgow Institute and The Paisley Arts Institute.

Gordon describes his studio as "organised chaos." "I have a number of paintings on the go at one time, my mind is bursting with ideas for new paintings. My studio is always brimming with canvases"

A recurring theme in many of Gordon's work is the Belted Galloway cow and Clyde Puffers, sometimes even together..

When asked about this, Gordon says "the Belted Galloway are an iconic breed and a favourite of mine. Although native to Dumfries and Galloway they can be found all over Scotland in my paintings and regularly make it onto my Clyde Puffers as a helmsman or a ship's mate."

"There's a village in the Campsies close to where I live called Killearn and I came across a solitary Belted Galloway cow (a Belty) standing in a field at the foot of a local hill called Dumgoyne. I felt compelled to paint her."

"Sitting at my easel time evaporates, reality and subconscious merge happily, I try to convey the sheer beauty of Scotland in my work."
