Julia Linstead

Julia was born in Birmingham in 1966 and studied at Sunderland Polytechnic from 1985-88, graduating with BA(Hons) in glass and ceramics. She initially set up her studio in Sunderland in 1989 but 'saw the light' and moved to Coldstream, Berwickshire in 1992. In 1991 she was awarded a Gold Medal by the Prince's Youth Business Trust and in 1992 was awarded 1st Place New Designer Gift Award by the Giftware Association. Since setting up in Scotland, Julia has shown her work in several exhibitions in Scotland, England and San Francisco. She also supplies work to Henrie Bendel, New York and the Museum of Science, San Francisco together with quality outlets in the UK.

"I have always found the most seductive quality of crystal is its ability to trap and manipulate light, and the subsequent effect this has on mood and attitude. Form and pure colour combine with light to project the piece beyond its physical boundaries. However controlled my input into the design is, I can always be surprised by the finished effect."
