Peter King

Born in Glasgow in 1953, Peter studied at the Glasgow Art School in the 1970s, specialising in drawing & painting. After his studies he taught Art and Design in Scottish secondary schools for over 30 years before retiring in 2010 to focus on his painting professionally.

Peter now lives and works from his studio in Arran and regularly exhibits at the Royal Scottish Academy and the Royal Glasgow Institute. His work is also represented in collections across the UK, Europe and North America and Japan

Peter's inspirations come from the light, colour and weathered landscapes of Scotland with the landscapes of Perthshire, Kintyre, Arran and the Clyde Valley of particular interest. He develops his paintings from a range of motifs, which he constantly returns to and reinterprets, focusing on aspects of changing moods of light, weather and seasons.

Working in oils, Peter uses the paint to capture and accentuate the seasonal effects of nature on the environment. He uses bold colours, free forms and textured shapes to compose his beautifully vibrant and highly textured landscapes.
