Alex attended Edinburgh College of Art, as well as Bradford and Ilkley Community College. She has always been drawn to figurative sculpture, be that animal or the human form. The characters in her work are all renditions of personal experience; the cats and dogs are from pets past and present, whereas the birds are either from chickens, which she was surrounded by as a child, or other more surreal styles inspired by David Attenborough's 'Life Of Birds'.
Alex's inspiration comes from a variety of sources, including cartoons, myths and legends, plays on words, and dreams. Her range of inspiration - from anywhere and anything - gives Alex joy to having total freedom to create. She uses different materials for different pieces to create particular effects. She normally uses the Raku process, due to the finish that this process offers as well as the immediacy of the results.
