Maryann Ryves

Maryann graduated with a BA (Hons) in printed textile design from Manchester in 1985. She was awarded a travel bursary from the Royal Society of Arts and exhibited her textile designs throughout the U.K. the following year. She then worked as a freelance textile designer exhibiting in Paris, Frankfurt and New York and selling to companies such as John Lewis, Sanderson, Next Interiors, Coloroll, Textra, Dovedale, Blydenstein-Willink in the Netherlands and Charles Sammelson in the U.S.A. Maryann was also commissioned to design a collection of rugs which were exhibited at Liberty's, London.Since moving to Scotland in 2000, Maryann began to focus on painting. Maryann first worked with watercolour and then more recently with oils. She felt these mediums best illustrate colour and texture of trees and landscape, which naturally inspire her, more accurately. In 2008 she exhibited at the RGI Open Exhibition and later became a member of the National Society in London. Now Maryann exhibits regularly around Scotland. Her watercolour and oil paintings are in many private collections in the U.K. and Europe.

"My work is evolving all the time, but I continue to be interested in the layering of images to create space and depth."
