Lynn McGregor RSW

Born in Pittenweem in Fife, Lynn studied at Edinburgh College of Art from 1984-88, graduating with BA (Hons) in Drawing and Painting. After completing a Post Graduate course, she worked as a part time lecturer at Telford College in Edinburgh, whilst also continuing to concentrate on her painting. She left Edinburgh in 2002 and moved to an uninhabited island in Strangford Lough, Co Down with her writer husband, Michael Faulkner to become a full-time artist. She returned to Scotland in 2014 moving to Argyll, where she now lives and works.

Lynn was elected RSW (Royal Scottish Society of Painters in Watercolour) in 2001 and she is a professional member of VAS (Visual Arts Scotland) and SSA (Society of Scottish Artists). Her work is shown in galleries throughout the UK and her paintings are held in numerous corporate and public collections including Robert Fleming Holdings Ltd, Edinburgh College of Art, Royal Bank of Scotland, National Trust for Scotland, Bank of Scotland, Scottish Arts Club, Royal College of Physicians and Eli Lilly Industries.

The source of Lynn's work is landscape in memory:

I work intuitively to try to find a balance between the various elements of texture, movement and geometry that I see in the landscape around me in Argyll, using energetic overlayerings of colour and blocking out shapes and marks as I work. Initially I allow myself to be led by the paint and the marks, then later take control of the medium, hopefully without losing the initial immediacy. My studio sits between a wooded hillside behind and Loch Awe in front, and this setting is the source of my inspiration.
