Duncan was born in Glasgow in 1955 and studied at Glasgow School of Art between 1970-74, graduating with a Diploma of Art. He then studied at Jordanhill College of Education from 1974-75 where he obtained his Teaching Degree.In 1980 he was elected to membership of the Royal Society of Painters in Watercolours (R.S.W.) and the following year received the Torrance Memorial Award (R.G.I.). He was elected to the Scottish Arts Council Lecturers Panel in 1992. He has shown his work extensively in Scotland including the Royal Glasgow Institute, The Royal Scottish Academy and R.S.W.His paintings are also held in private and public collections throughout the World. Duncan uses a variety of media and incorporates his own hand made paper into his distinctive paintings. He captures the beauty and mystery of the West Coast of Scotland and you can almost feel the rain approaching in some of his paintings.
