Nicole graduated from Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art with a BA with Honours (First Class) in 2008. In 2007 Nicole was awarded the Artists and Illustrators Magazine Self-Portraiture Competition. This year she has been awarded the Farqhuar Reid Trust Art Prize, the Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation Grant, Second Prize at the Boundary Gallery Figurative Art Prize and the David Gordon Memorial Trust Award at the Royal Scottish Academy Student Exhibition.
Her work has already been exhibited in Glasgow, Dundee and London. Nicole has just completed her first experience as a painting tutor in the General Foundation Course at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art in Dundee. She has been selected for Odd Nerdrum’s international artists community in Stavern, Norway, through a process organised by the Forum Gallery in New York. The residency will commence in September 2008 for the duration of one year.
“My painting practice is focused on combining portraiture and still life in a representational style to give a sense of form to figures while creating depth of space. My subject matter recently has been concentrated on the environment of the art school as a source of inspiration. The idea that the dirt, grime and splats of paint embody past generations hopes and dreams, like a kind of surface archaeology, has been important in my work thus far. In this exhibition of recent graduates work, there are a selection of portraits of fellow art students.”
