dot sim

Dot studied at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art, Dundee, graduating this year with BDes(Hons) LSDC.  In her final year she won several awards including a Goldsmiths Hall Precious Metal Bursary and the F & A Bradshaw memorial Prize which will allow her to study traditional goldsmithing techniques at the Alchimia Contemporary Jewellery School in Florence later this year. Dot has been invited to show her work in 10 exhibitions in Scotland and England over the next 6 months.

Her work is handmade using traditional gold and silversmithing techniques. In choosing to use precious metals, Dot illustrates her interest in the role of jewellery as heirlooms that are handed down, providing intimate memories for future generations; they "stand the test of time".

"My designs are inspired by my rural Scottish environment – from changing landscapes, windswept beaches, and stormy seas, to the minutiae found in rock pools and the garden. I "draw" with metal to capture movement and quality of line."
