sam wade

Sam is Vice President of Visual Arts Scotland VAS, and is a professional member of the Society of Scottish Artists, SSA. He worked as a civil engineer in England before his interest gravitated towards sculpture, when his career took him to Scotland 30 years ago. Sam currently lives in the Scottish Borders and exhibits widely throughout the UK.

Exploration of form and function is central to Sam's work. His work is mainly made in stainless steel, aluminium, brass, copper and Perspex, with some wood used to construct a sculpture rather than carve or cast it.

"I like to think my kinetic sculptures tread a fine line between art and engineering, exploring the long tradition of form-through-motion by combining movement and machinery with, I hope, a degree of precision, humour and truth to materials."

Kinetic: an assemblage or sculpture, made up of parts designed to be set in motion by an internal mechanism or an external force.
