heather blanchard

Heather graduated from Wolverhampton and Chelsea Schools of Art and spent her early career as a successful textile designer, based in London but selling work mainly in Japan and the USA, also working as a part-time lecturer at Southend School of Art. In the 1980s she gave up teaching to form a partnership concentrating on interior design, exhibition design and hand printed wallpapers. While Heather has spent the past twenty years painting she has also found the time to illustrate a number of educational publications. She was an invited artist at the Cumbrian Open studio tour exhibition, and a prize winner and judge at the Cumbrian Open. Heather has had many successful exhibitions in Essex, Suffolk, Shropshire, Wales, Cumbria and more recently Scotland, having moved here three years ago.

"I am a painter working mostly in oils, but more recently a screenprinter. I have lived in many areas of the UK and am excited by the landscape wherever I am. The Hebrides and the Solway coast are a constant inspiration. My love of strong pattern and the dramatic effects of changing light and weather conditions are, I hope, apparent in my work. What we see dissipates, moves on, but I strive to capture a moment, an emotion, a snippet of the changeability of nature."
