steven doyle
Steven graduated from Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art this year with a BA in Fine Art.
These images fall under the body titled 'The Same but Different'.
The triptychs invite the audience to engage in the relationship between photography and painting. The majority of painted images we are presented with come in the form of photographic prints in publications or as digital media on the Internet. Artists paint from photographic images industriously and more often than not, wider audiences will view their finished works as photographs in book or web pages.
I ask that we consider this by visually comparing and considering alternative chains of image ownership. Having forwarded two of 'my' photographs taken of twins (which in turn works with the conceptual nature of my investigation) to an Irish painter (Ian Cumberland see www.iancumberland.com), 'his' paintings have then been photographed to effectively resurface as 'my' final images. This process is one that I believed is best imagined to be infinite. It is my intention that all three links in the chain are displayed as one piece of work so the relationship between the photograph, the painting and the digital image are three and one for the viewer to engage.
